A native Australian, Frank moved to Los Angeles in 1952 and worked at the Walt Disney Studios on animation backgrounds and layout for such feature films as Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, Man in Space, Mary Poppins and The Jungle Book.

He joined Disney Imagineering in 1977 and his artwork of anatomical subjects was a prime factor in paving the way for the Wonders of Life Pavilion at Epcot Center in Florida. Since retiring from Disney in 1989, Frank has completed a course in Oriental medicine and pursued post-graduate work in China. He volunteers in rural Mexico with the Flying Doctors.

In his early career Armitage became involved with the Mexican mural painting movement and in 1949, after winning an international mural contest sponsored by David Alfaro Siguieros, world-renowned Mexican muralist, he became his assistant on several murals.

At the present time the artist has produced some oil paintings/murals for private homes in Woodside and Saratoga, California. For the Disney organization, Armitage painted 5,500 square feet of murals for Safari Fare Restaurant at Walt Disney World in Florida. He also prepared the murals at Tokyo Disney Seas; American Waterfront, including nine portraits of Theodore Roosevelt for the Roosevelt Lounge; corridor panels in the Miracosta Hotel; the mural in the Broadway Bar; and four Early American murals in the park's City Hall.

Some of the most prominent work by Frank Armitage includes illustrating the function of the brain, a project for Life Magazine in 1971, with extraordinary photographs by Lennart Nilsson, and the production illustration for the Academy Award winning film Fantastic Voyage for 20th Century Fox.

Frank Armitage is available for commissioned work.
